Spring Check-Out

Residents are expected to move out 24 hours after their last final. Students who have a final on Friday are required to move out Saturday no later than 9:00 a.m. 

Residents graduating or working the Commencement ceremony, can request to check out by 3:00 p.m. the day of commencement. This process is done in the RLH Portal under "Late Departure".

  • Attend your mandatory floor: If you move out prior to your mandatory floor meeting, please consult with your RA or your Front Desk staff about move-out procedures prior to your final preparations for departure.

  • Residents are expected to complete the checkout procedures that will be posted on their door before officially checking-out. 

  • Sign up for a Check-Out Appointment with your RA

Spring Check-Out Process:

    • Must be gone 24 hours after the last Final exam. 

    • Residents need to clean their room or apartment – All common rooms must be cleaned as well. (Vacuuming is not necessary.)

    • Dispose of all garbage in the appropriate trash/recycling areas outside of the building…i.e. the dumpster!

    • Dispose of all perishable food items.

    • The Hallway or suite area outside residents’ rooms should be clear of any trash, debris, personal belongings, etc.

    • Suite and/or common area needs to be cleaned and tidy…RD will charge the suite/apartment if left filthy

    • Make sure all windows are closed and locked.  All blinds must be closed.

    • Turn off air/heating (if applicable)

    • All electronic devices must be unplugged from the wall outlets (not just unplugged from the power strips).

    • If the student is staying at Jessup and returning for Spring, they just hang on to their key.

    • Turn off all lights and make sure that faucets are completely off.

    • Apartment refrigerators must be cleaned including the removal of perishables.  All kitchen/bathroom counters, appliances, toilets, sinks, and showers must be cleaned before residents leave for winter break.

    • Each roommate must sign and date the form “Closing Checklist” on the door so that RLH staff knows residents are gone.  Leave attached to door.  If leaving for break and returning spring semester, student signs the checklist on the door, no checkout with the RA is needed. 

  • Residence keys must be turned in in order to avoid the $50 Key Replacement Fine. Keys should not be turned in to RA's or RD's.

    • During normal business hours: Go to the Student Life Office front desk and fill out the "key" envelope. Turn in your key envelope with the Student Life Front Desk

    • After normal business hours: Go to The Union and fill out the "key" envelope located above the desk.

  • 24 HOUR LOBBY/QUIET HOURS

    • 24-hour quiet hours are in effect during final exams starting the Friday before Finals week and will end Saturday after Finals week. 

    • To be courteous to others, no opposite gender guests in the residential community during the week of final exams.

    • Only those that have a University need are permitted to depart late from campus without a charge.

      • All requests will be reviewed by the Director of Residence Life & Housing and the Housing Operations Manager.

      • You will need to select from the options provided in the RLH Portal as to why you need depart late.

      • If you do not have a University need to depart late your student account will be charged.


      Request Dates:

      • Form opens: April 1

      • Form closes: April 20

        If you are staying for post-season athletics, do not complete this form 

    • In order to receive your summer room key, you must be clear with Student Accounts. 

    • Transition to summer spaces will not take place at least until the week of May 1 to May 5 due to Facilities need go clean and prep the apartment spaces. Students will remain in their current spring assignment until the RLH emails "Move to your Summer Assignment".

    • Summer Transition students still need to sign up for a check-out time with their RA for their spring assignment. Items should be mostly packed and ready to transition. 

    • Students will pick up their summer key in the Student Life Office prior to moving in.
